The People Behind Advance Asphalt

A Colorado family business that built its reputation one driveway, parking lot and patio at a time — and would rather tell you the smaller job is the right one than sell you the bigger one.

Our Story

A Colorado Company, Built on Trust

Advance Asphalt & Concrete Services is a family-owned business based in Golden, Colorado, founded and run by Larry Eli. We are asphalt contractors in Denver who specialise in maintaining asphalt rather than only installing it — and we pour concrete too: patios, sidewalks, driveways and flatwork across the Denver metro and the foothills.

We have been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since October 2017 and hold an A+ rating. Our Google profile averages 4.6 stars across 29 reviews. Those are the two numbers we would point at if you asked us to prove anything, because you can check both of them yourself in about thirty seconds.

The approach has always been simple: do honest, high-quality work and treat every customer the way we would want to be treated. A large share of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients, which is the only marketing metric that has ever really mattered to us.

Whether it is a residential driveway in Arvada, a commercial parking lot in Lakewood, or a long mountain drive up in Conifer, the same crew brings the same care to it.

We have built our reputation on quality work and excellent customer service.

Why It Matters That We Do Both

No Reason to Sell You the Wrong Material

Most contractors do asphalt or concrete. We do both, and that changes the conversation more than it might sound.

A company that only lays asphalt will find a reason your patio should be asphalt. A company that only pours concrete will explain why your driveway needs a concrete slab. Neither is lying exactly — they are recommending the thing they can actually deliver.

Because we install both, our recommendation is about your property. For most driveways on the Front Range, asphalt is the better answer: it costs less, installs faster, and it flexes when the expansive clay soil underneath it moves rather than cracking. For a patio, a walkway or decorative flatwork, concrete usually wins. We will tell you which is which, and we have written the full comparison up in our guide to asphalt versus concrete driveways in Denver.

The same logic applies to scope. If your driveway needs a seal coat and some crack filling rather than a replacement, that is what we will quote — even though it is a much smaller invoice. If it genuinely needs replacing, we will show you why rather than asking you to take our word for it.

What We Stand For

The Values We Pave With

Not slogans — how we actually run a job, from the first estimate to the final walkthrough.

The Base Comes First

Grading, drainage and sub-base compaction are the parts nobody sees and the parts that decide whether a surface lasts eight years or twenty-five. They are also the first thing a cheap bid quietly removes. We do not skip them.

Itemised, Honest Quotes

Written, with square footage, thickness, base treatment and what is excluded all visible. No hidden fees, no pressure, and no quote over the phone for work we have not looked at.

Local, and Actually Here

We live and work on the Front Range. When you call, you reach the family doing the work, not a national call centre routing your job to whoever bid lowest this week.

We Stand Behind It

Up to a 3-year warranty on seal coating, with the exclusions handed to you in writing before work starts rather than produced afterwards. If our name is on it, it needs to hold up.

Being Straight With You

Things We Will Tell You That Others Might Not

Some of these cost us work. We would rather say them at the estimate than have you find out afterwards.

What you will hear from us

  • “You do not need a new driveway.” If the base is sound, crack filling and a seal coat will do — at a fraction of the cost. Sealing a driveway whose base has already failed is money spent on cosmetics, and we will say so rather than take the job.
  • “An overlay will do instead of a replacement.” Where the base is intact, a fresh layer bonded over the existing surface costs far less than tearing everything out.
  • “Not this late in the season.” Seal coat needs pavement above roughly 50°F with dry weather behind it. Sealer applied in late October often comes off with the first plow. We would rather book you for spring.
  • “Wait for the new asphalt to cure.” Sealing fresh asphalt too early traps oils in the surface and does more harm than good.
  • “That other quote is the better deal.” Sometimes it genuinely is. More often it is a different scope — thinner asphalt, no base work, removal excluded — and we will help you see which.
  • “Your restriping triggers an ADA obligation.” For commercial lots, restriping brings a federal requirement to provide accessible parking meeting the 2010 ADA Standards. Most owners have never been told. We raise it at the estimate, not halfway through.

Long asphalt driveway running uphill to a hillside home surrounded by ponderosa pines near Golden, Colorado
Hillside Access DriveLong private drives take the worst of the freeze-thaw cycle. Base depth matters more here than anywhere.

Curved Mountain ApproachA sloped, curving drive has to be graded so meltwater sheds off the surface instead of running along the edge.
Freshly seal coated asphalt driveway and turnaround at a Colorado home, caution tape still in place while the sealer cures
Driveway & TurnaroundCaution tape stays up until the sealer cures — usually 24 to 48 hours before vehicles go back on.

Residential ResealA reseal every two to three years keeps the binder flexible and stops water working its way underneath.
Working With Us

From First Call to Finished Surface

Transparent throughout, so you always know what is happening and what comes next.

Step 01

You Reach Out

Call (720) 787-8699 or send the form. Tell us roughly what you have — and for mountain properties, mention access: switchbacks, low branches, gate widths, weight-limited bridges.

Step 02

Free On-Site Estimate

We walk the property, check the base, look at where water goes, and measure. You get a clear written quote with the scope itemised. No obligation, no surprises, and no charge.

Step 03

Permits, If Any Apply

Most work on your own property needs none. Anything touching the public right-of-way usually does, and the rules differ sharply by city — see our service area guides. We establish which applies before work is scheduled.

Step 04

We Do the Work Right

Proper prep, professional-grade materials, experienced crew. Commercial lots are phased so sections stay open and you keep trading.

Step 05

Walkthrough & Cure Times

We review the finished job with you and tell you exactly when you can use it — asphalt one to three days, seal coat 24 to 48 hours, concrete about a week before heavy use.

Our Specialty

Seal Coating Is What We Do Best

Seal coating protects and beautifies asphalt. It resists gas, oil and salt, guards against freeze-thaw water seepage, and blocks the ultraviolet oxidation that dries out the binder holding your driveway together.

We apply Masterseal Asphalt Emulsion Sealant. Asphalt emulsion shares a chemical base with the pavement itself, so it bonds readily, and it is lower in volatile organic compounds than coal tar alternatives. The honest trade-off is that it needs reapplying a little more often — which is part of why we quote a two to three year interval in this climate rather than the three to five you will read nationally.

Timing matters as much as product. New asphalt has to cure before its first coat, and sealer needs dry weather above roughly 50°F to bond. That is why most seal work here happens between late spring and early autumn.

Why It Matters Here

  • Roughly 134 freeze-thaw days a year in the Denver area
  • Stronger ultraviolet exposure at 5,280 feet and above
  • Expansive clay soils that swell wet and shrink dry
  • De-icing salt tracked onto the surface all winter
  • A working season shorter than most of the country
Up to 3-Year Warranty *Exclusions apply and are provided in writing before work begins.
Where We Work

Proudly Serving the Denver Metro & Foothills

Based in Golden. Each city guide covers the permits, soils and season that actually apply there — because they are genuinely different from town to town.

We also take projects in Denver, Littleton, Centennial, Englewood, Morrison and Aurora. Not sure whether you are in range? Call (720) 787-8699 and we will tell you straight.

About the Company

Questions People Ask Us

Who owns Advance Asphalt & Concrete Services?
The company is family owned and operated, founded and run by Larry Eli, and based at 601 16th St Ste C-150 in Golden, Colorado. When you call, you are speaking to the family that does the work rather than a call centre.
How long have you been in business?
We have been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since October 2017 and hold an A+ rating. Rather than quote a round number for how long we have been paving, we would point you at things you can verify: the BBB accreditation date, and our Google profile at 4.6 stars across 29 reviews.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, and we are happy to provide current documentation before work begins — just ask. Worth knowing that contractor licensing for right-of-way work is issued city by city rather than statewide in Colorado, and some cities do not accept licences from neighbouring jurisdictions. We establish what applies to your specific address at the estimate.
Do you do both asphalt and concrete?
Yes, and it matters more than it sounds. A company that only lays asphalt will find a reason your patio should be asphalt. Because we do both, our recommendation is about your property. Generally: asphalt for driveways, roads and parking lots because it flexes with the clay soil here; concrete for patios, walkways and decorative flatwork.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes — free, written, itemised and with no obligation. We do not quote per square foot over the phone, because base condition and site access affect the figure more than area does and neither is visible from a photograph or a satellite image.
What warranty do you offer?
Up to a 3-year warranty on seal coating. Exclusions apply, and we give them to you in writing before work starts rather than producing them afterwards — which is the part that matters.
Do you work on commercial properties and HOAs?
Yes — retail, office, industrial, multi-family and HOA properties across the metro. Lots are phased so sections stay open and tenants keep access throughout. Our guide to commercial parking lot maintenance covers the maintenance economics and the ADA compliance point that catches most owners out.
Will you drive out to a mountain property?
Yes. Foothills work is a regular part of what we do, and several of the driveways in our photos are exactly that terrain. Longer drives and shared private roads travel best — one mobilisation across several properties is far better value than separate trips up the hill. See our Evergreen and Conifer pages for the county and fire-access rules that apply up there.
